Deciding What Product to Promote

As you know, website creation is the first step in affiliate marketing. But before that, you need to know what kind of website you'll create. You need to know what type of content you're going to write about.

Will you write about shoes? Do you want to talk about celebrities? Are you comfortable with cars? Are you interested in garden tools?

Whatever you decide to write about, create a website that can be used to market a product. Create a website that's meant for shoppers and prospective buyers. Create a website that provides buyers with information that they need.

Think about this. If you create a website that talks about celebrities in general, will it generate sales? If so, then you are on the right track.

Compare the following websites: CNN.com, and a new website I'm working on called Best Rated Dishwashers. The latter is obviously not targeting buyers.

Another point that you need to understand is that your topic should not be broad. It has to be tightly focused and defined. For you to better understand this concept, compare the following topics:

- Coffee Equipment
- Burr Coffee Grinders

Coffee equipment is a broad topic because there are several types of coffee equipment. One of them is coffee grinder. Notice that "coffee grinder" can be broken down into more specific topics, and one of them is "burr coffee grinders."

Why create a site with a tightly focused topic? Because if you want to rank high on Google and attract more visitors, you need to build your authority over a subject. If you're writing about a specific topic, it's easier to create authority.

To summarize, here are some powerful points to ponder when creating a website.

- Create a website that targets shoppers and buyers.
- Go for a site with a tightly focused topic.
